DPF DELETE QUESTIONS
What work must be done in order to run delete tuning?
At minimum you must remove the DPF, removal of the cat and nox is also advised, a turbo back exhaust will perform best with nice low EGTs (exhaust gas temperature) and better mileage but a Custom Centre Section Exhaust will be almost as good and quieter.
Will it Pass Emissions?
DPF Delete is for non emissions areas only (93% of canada) However if you were to test your truck with the heavy snap test you will always pass emissions with our tuning and a properly maintained truck. (unlike a lot of the tuners on the market)
What Tune do you recommend for the best mileage?
Generally speaking the more power you add the more fuel mileage you will get. That being said you have to drive the truck carefully. Those without self control who want mileage should limit use of high power tunes. Those with self control we recommend the highest amount of power thats safe for your truck and tow situation.
What Tune do you recommend for towing?
All of Darknights Tunes are Variable Tunes. This is the BEST possible setup for towing any load. Please click VARIABLE TUNING in the upper right hand corner of this page for an explanation.
What kind of Fuel mileage can I expect?
There is literally hundred of factors, driving, route, temperature, tire size type and inflation, fluid viscosity, aerodynamics.
here is some numbers our test trucks have gotten, test trucks are stock unless noted with factory tires, maintained to perfection and low kms, your mileage will vary greatly
Highway mileage, unloaded, no headwind, up to temp 100-110kmh With turbo back and delete tune
2007.5-2014 Duramax 10-11L per 100km
2008-2010 Powerstroke 10.5-11.5L per 100km
2011-2016 Powerstroke 10-11L per 100km
2007.5-2012 Cummins 9-10L per 100km
These are averages, your mileage will vary greatly.
Will tuning Hurt my transmission or engine in any way?
NO, In fact with our trans tunes you will be extending the life of your transmission. as for the engine, running with colder EGTs or exhaust gas temps will make the engine last as long as possible. A properly tuned and deleted truck will long long outlast a stock time bomb. KEEP IN MIND A lot of tuners you buy Will not include Trans tuning or they charge extra. our trans tuning is always free.
Will The truck smoke?
Our tunes are as clean as possible, We also have low smoke tuning available that virtually eliminates smoke
If I add mods will I need re-tuning?
Mild mods like intake, exhaust and other small things do not need re-tuning, If you do a larger turbo or injectors you would need re-tuning to sqeeze everything out of it.
I don't want my truck to be loud, are there options?
Yes theres lots of different options from nearly as quiet as stock to as loud as you wish, a Centre Section Delete only slightly increases exhaust sound
Do I have to remove The EGR?
No, the EGR is Deleted Electronically, there is no need or gain in physically removing it, that was a seperate issue in the ford 6.0 diesels. some companies offer kits to physically remove it as extra profit. You can remove the EGR if you wish after our tuning is installed.
I currently have a tuner, what do I do with it?
If you have a tuner you could unlock it by returning to stock and sell since you dont need it anymore, if you have some kind of gauge monitor you can still use it as a monitor, any OBD Monitor will work with our tuning,
Will I be able to check and clear codes like normal?
Yes the trucks Diagnostics system stays the same, you can still read ad clear codes with any code reader,
Can I use a Monitor?
Yes you can use any OBD monitor or gauges of any kind with our tuning. We recommend a simple OBD Bluetooth dongle. that way you get nice beautiful gauges and monitoring to your smartphone. no ugly wires and no big dumb looking edge or bully on your dash just waiting to be stolen.
Dont I need to keep a Tuner?
No you do not. once the tune is loaded its in there forever, no way to lose it,
What if I want to return to stock?
With any delete tuning you would have to return the entire exhaust to stock as well. This would make no sense at all. That being said any dealer can flash to stock for $80-100
