Fuel Supplement

You Have to use a Fuel Supplement With both lubricity and Cetane. This Must ALWAYS be in your Fuel tank, stock or deleted. Its right in your diesel owners manual

We use and recommend Diesel Kleen by Power Service. Avail At Canadian Tire, Parts source, just about everywhere

You need it because the  Fuel (ULSD) you get at the pump is NOT compatible with your truck.  70% of Diesel owners don't know this

Oil

You must switch the 10W or 15W dealers and shops use to a  5W Synthetic.

With the longer interval with he 5W Synthetic... Its the exact same price long term. Not to mention better fuel mileage and much much longer engine life and less smoke

Fuel Filters
Your vehicle’s fuel filters are almost as important as its oil. They should be changed often—we recommend every 24,000 km (or more often with low-quality fuels or extreme duty). Alternatively, change the filters when your truck warns you.

Even a slightly Dirty Fuel filter will cause lots of issues. 2011+ duramax owners need to listen to this. Otherwise they are replacing there High Pressure pump often.

Air filters
Your air filter must be perfectly clean at all times. Even a slightly dirty air filter can make your truck a smoky mess, fail the emissions test, or kill your fuel mileage and all your power and response. More importantly, It will slowly destroy your engine.

We strongly recommend to use an aftermarket cold-air intake. They have a larger surface area to collect more dust particles and allow you to simply clean your air filter as needed. A high-quality cold-air intake improves fuel mileage, response, and engine life and leads to less smoke.

Be sure to clean your mass airflow sensor (MAF) every time you change your air filter. Only use an MAF-sensor cleaner—other cleaners will ruin the sensor.

Turbo/EGR/Intercooler Cleaning
You must clean your turbo and EGR passageway yearly—if you don’t, you will slowly gum up your turbo and reduce airflow to the point where you lose fuel mileage, fail an emissions test, and eventually reach high EGTs, which will blow your engine.

Turbo Cleaning
We recommend http://www.reviveturbocleaner.ca for regular turbo cleaning. Wynns also has a good Diesel Turbo cleaner. Mopar Has an Excellent turbo cleaning kit for the 13+ cummins

EGR
We recommend JLM (Avail online)  Or BG if you want your local shop to do it.

Intercooler

Be sure to clean your intercooler once every 3-4 years

Transmission
Always use the factory-recommended fluid. Flush and change it at the factory-recommended intervals. Don’t forget transmission fluid filters.

If you run a different fluid, you may experience shift issues such as delayed gear engagement and overly soft or hard shifts.

Transmission fluid level—please check the fluid levels monthly. Even half a liter too high or too low will destroy a transmission over time.
CCV Filter/CCV Re-Route
A CCV Re-Route is an inexpensive mod that will keep your intake, turbo, intercooler, etc., cleaner for longer.

Dirty oil vapors from the crankcase are injected back into the intake and blown through the engine, gumming everything up very quickly.

At minimum, please change your CCV filter.

Fuel Tank Cleaning
This is the step that nobody takes until they have to. Over time, your diesel fuel tank develops sludge, slime, and microorganisms. These will contaminate the fuel you put in and can plug up fuel filters quite easily.

We recommend doing a fuel tank cleaning every two years (more often if you’re using low-quality fuel).

Power Service’s Clear Diesel Fuel and Tank Cleaner works well.
Coolant, Power Steering, and Brake Fluids
Never assume the fluids have been changed by the previous owner.

Flush and change your coolant—otherwise it will turn to acid and eat the motor from the inside.

Power steering fluid breaks down over time. It’s also engine-driven, so less resistance means less power and lower fuel efficiency.

Differential fluids—by running a high-quality synthetic fluid and cleaning out the old fluid, you will pick up some fuel mileage and even a little power.

The same goes for the transfer case, which is often overlooked until it fails.
